The Miami Hurricanes will begin Fall Camp practices on August 1st in preparation for their first game of the season on September 1st. In this article I will project who I expect to be in the two-deep rotation across all 22 starting positions for the start of camp, not necessarily for the end of it. On the offensive side I will assume 11-set personnel (one Running Back and one Tight End) and a 4-2-5 base set for the defense. Let’s cook…

Offense
Position | Starter | Backup |
Quarterback | Tyler Van Dyke | Jacurri Brown |
Running Back | Donald Chaney Jr | Henry Parrish Jr |
Wide Receiver (X) | Colbie Young | Frank Ladson Jr |
Wide Receiver (Slot) | Xavier Restrepo | Brashard Smith |
Wide Receiver (Z) | Jacolby George | Tyler Harrell |
Tight End | Elijah Arroyo | Jaleel Skinner |
Left Tackle | Jalen Rivers | Samson Okunlola |
Left Guard | Javion Cohen | Laurence Seymore |
Center | Matt Lee | Jonathan Denis |
Right Guard | Anez Cooper | Logan Sagapolu |
Right Tackle | Francis Mauigoa | Matthew McCoy |
Positions To Watch
Running Back
Don Chaney is the most complete back on the roster at the moment but when TreVonte Citizen is cleared (August) and Ajay Allen (transfer from Nebraska) and Mark Fletcher (Freshman) settle in there could be some shuffling.
Z-Receiver
Coach Cristobal and Tyler Van Dyke went out of their way to praise Jacolby George at ACC Media Days but Tyler Harrell is reportedly the fastest player on the team and as the old saying goes, "speed kills".
Offensive Line
Zion Nelson's name does not appear on this list as he is expected to participate in camp but not at the outset. When he does return I will be keen to see if he can recapture that starting Left Tackle position. That, to me, is what will determine how good this unit can be. Jalen Rivers is a serviceable Tackle but is a high-level Guard so if he can kick back inside the entire unit will benefit.

Defense
Position | Starter | Backup |
Defensive End | Akeem Mesidor | Chantz Williams |
Defensive End | Jafari Harvey | Nyjalik Kelly |
Defensive Tackle | Leonard Taylor III | Branson Deen |
Defensive Tackle | Jared Harrison-Hunte | Jacob Lichtenstein |
Middle Linebacker | Francisco Mauigoa | Corey Flagg Jr |
Weakside Linebacker | Wesley Bissainthe | K.J. Cloyd |
Boundary Cornerback | Daryl Porter | Jaden Davis |
Field Cornerback | Davonte Brown | Jades Richard |
Star/Nickel Cornerback | Te'Cory Couch | Jaden Harris |
Safety | Kamren Kinchens | Brian Balom |
Safety | James Williams | Markeith Williams |
Positions To Watch
Defensive End
Nyjalik Kelly has tons of talent and the early returns is that he's ready to be a consistent impact player on this defense so it will be interesting to see if he can unseat Jafari Harvey as a starter by the end of camp. Everybody at DE is looking over their shoulder at Rueben Bain.
Weakside Linebacker
Wesley is going into his Sophomore season after ending last year as a starter. He's got all the physical attributes needed but he's still a bit green and KJ Cloyd was brought it particularly to challenge him. Does he elevate or does KJ finally get his chance to start which he was unable to do at Louisville?
Cornerback
Coach Cristobal and Jahmile Addae brought in four defensive backs and all of them are expected to compete at cornerback. The only person I feel confident about where I tabbed them is Davonte Brown due to his length and speed. Everybody else will be battling for their spot.
